“Really?” Jotaro could hear the anger in his own voice. This isn’t a man you can confront on your own, Rohan.” Tsuji Aya and the man he traded places with did die. He confronted me directly because he felt cornered, and Koichi and I both almost died. Even if that had been Kira, he’s a dangerous enemy. “I would have incapacitated him with Heaven’s Door,” Rohan said matter-of-factly. “What the hell did you think was going to happen if you found him?” Josuke didn’t believe me, so I went back alone.” I saw-I thought I saw-through the window in the tunnel wall, I mean. “Why the hell did you go in that room in the first place? It was obviously a trap.” Jotaro held out the lit cigarette, which Rohan plucked from his fingers and took a long drag on. “Genuinely, I don’t,” Rohan said, shooting him a sideways glance.
It had you trapped in whatever that place was for hours. He put the cigarette to his lips and lit it, taking a long drag before stepping down onto the pavement and sitting on the curb beside Rohan. He’d thought he’d be in Japan for a couple of weeks at most. He should have brought a carton with him from America when the Foundation flew him over, but it wasn’t like he’d known how long he would end up staying in Morioh. The ones he could buy in Japan just didn’t do it for him anymore. He pulled the cigarette from the pack with a regretful sigh.
From what little he’d gathered, the crux of the matter was Rohan’s wounded pride. The exact circumstances of the argument were a mystery to Jotaro, but he didn’t really need the rest of the details.
Josuke was already long gone, having stormed off in a huff after he was finished healing Rohan. Rohan, who was sitting by the side of the road with a profoundly irritated expression on his face and his back to Jotaro.
When everything was said and done, there was nothing left except for a single bent cigarette at the bottom of a crumpled pack, and Rohan.
